It’s a few days before Thanksgiving and you’re probably busy cooking, baking, preparing, packing, or all of the above, to celebrate a day of gratitude. What if we called it Gratitude Day? A Gratitude and Giving Day? Where we thank God for the abundance He gives us and in return give to others?
We’re usually with family or friends but there’s also a possibility you’ll be spending time with ones who challenge your grace. Or there may be an empty chair at the table this year. There’s also fresh on our hearts and minds the unsettlement of this world and what’s been happening the past couple of weeks.
The holiday season is here and in the midst of the joy, excitement, and cherished traditions, it can also be a time when feelings of anxiousness, worry, stress, over-commitment, and fear of the unknown. Peace usually gets lost in the busyness or ignored because I’m not being truly grateful nor resting in the Lord as a priority in my day.
This Thanksgiving, something I know God will serve is peace, and I already know I’ll be asking for 2nds, 3rds and lots of leftovers! It’s encouraging to read we can, “…experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:7 (TLB)
So, I think praying for PEACE would be a good thing to do for all of us as we celebrate Thanksgiving this coming week. God, You are the Prince of Peace and ask that You be in our thoughts and minds daily- hourly – moment by moment. Please take away our anxious thoughts and replace them with rest and peace as we trust in You. We have so much to be grateful for, even if times are difficult. We can always be thankful for Your Son, Jesus. He is enough.
Safe travels, fun cooking, special family time, yummy food, and tons of gratitude for and to all of you this Thanksgiving week!
